Established in 1904, McClafferty are the city’s longest established independent funeral director whom have earned an excellent reputation for providing a professional, compassionate and dignified service for bereaved families across our communities and beyond. With McClafferty Funeral Directors there is no such thing as a standard arrangement. We work with you to customise and personalise every detail to your exacting requirements. Our experienced and professional staff will help guide you through each step of the planning process discussing all your expectations such as funeral costs, floral arrangements, funeral vehicles, and coffin selection, every detail will be fine-tuned. We liaise with all medical staff, clergy, cemeteries, and crematoria as and when required. In 2024 McClafferty Funeral Directors marks 120 years as the city’s longest established funeral director.
1904
September 2, 1904Mr. John L. McClafferty established McClafferty Funeral Directors in King Street in the Waterside, Derry in 1904. He and his family ran the business until 1974. The image shows McClafferty Funeral Directors funeral home all those years ago.
1974
March 14, 1974In 1974 Mr. Jack McKeone took ownership of McClafferty Funeral Directors whilst situated at Meenan Square in the Bogside. He continued to run the business for the next 13 years.
1987
February 17, 1987Ownership then passed to Mr. John Casey in 1987 who remained at the helm alongside his family for 32 years. The image shows Mr. John Casey directing a funeral in 2014 with a horse-drawn carriage in procession on the Brandywell Road clearly showing the old Brandywell Stadium in the background recently renamed the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

March 8, 2019In March 2019 our new owner and proprietor Mr. Kieran Connor took the reigns of McClafferty Funeral Directors and has devoted himself to providing an authentic, personal & caring service to the families of Derry and beyond in their time of need.

Marian McCourt
Date of death: 03-12-2024
It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Marian McCourt, peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital, after a short illness bravely borne on 3rd December 2024.
Late of 46 Leenan Gardens and formerly of 9 Nicholson Terrace. May she rest in peace.
Beloved daughter of the late Mard and Tommy (Sonny). Loving sister of Gerard, Peter, Colin, Adrian, Anthony, Paula, Imelda and Sharon. A dear sister-in-law and much loved aunt to all of her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of her wider family circle and friends.
Marian’s remains will be reposing at her brother Peter’s residence, 28 The Meadows, from 1pm tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 4th December. Funeral leaving from there on Friday 6th December at 9:20am for 10am Requiem Mass in St. Eugene’s Cathedral. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
Wake house will be private from 10pm until 11am.

Vincent (Vinny) O’Callaghan

It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Vincent (Vinny) O’Callaghan, peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital on 30th November 2024.
Late of 32 Daisyhill Park. May he rest in peace.
Beloved husband of Rosaleen. Devoted father of Martina, Vincent, Deirdre, Gary, Roisin and Mairead. Loving granda of Eve, Sarah, Vincent, Eadaoin, Rose, Peadar, Mollie and Kevin. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of his wider family circle and friends.
Vincent’s remains are now reposing at his late residence, 32 Daisyhill Park. Funeral leaving from there on Tuesday 3rd December at 11:30am for 12pm Requiem Mass in Our Lady Of Lourdes Church, Steelstown. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
The wake house will be private from 10pm until 11am.

Ann Joyce née Doherty

It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Ann Joyce née Doherty, peacefully at Melmount Manor Nursing Home, Strabane on 27th November 2024.
Late of 27 Francis Street. May she rest in peace.
Beloved wife of the late Willie. Loving mother of Sharon, Peter, Liam and the late Annemarie and Colm. Devoted grandmother of Pearse, Matthew, Áine, Clare and Oonagh. Dearest sister of Lawrence, Henry and the late Denis and Kathleen. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all her wider family circle and friends.
Ann’s remains will be reposing at the McClafferty funeral home and chapel of rest. Funeral leaving from there on Saturday 30th November at 9:30am for 10am Requiem Mass in St. Eugene’s Cathedral. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.

Late of 1 Moir Street, Alloa, Clackmannashire, Scotland and formerly of Desertegney, Glebe, Co. Donegal. May he rest in peace.
Beloved husband of the late Mary. Devoted father of Christine, Liz, Jim, Kieran and Martin. Loving grandfather and great-grandfather to all of his grandchildren. A much loved brother, father-in-law and uncle. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all his wider family circle and friends.
