With McClafferty Funeral Directors there is no such thing as a standard arrangement. We work with you to customise and personalise every detail to your exacting requirements. Our experienced and professional staff will help guide you through each step of the planning process discussing all your expectations such as funeral costs, floral arrangements, funeral vehicles, and coffin selection, every detail will be fine-tuned. We liaise with all medical staff, clergy, cemeteries, and crematoria as and when required. In 2024 McClafferty Funeral Directors marks 120 years as the city’s longest established funeral director.
1904
September 2, 1904Mr. John L. McClafferty established McClafferty Funeral Directors in King Street in the Waterside, Derry in 1904. He and his family ran the business until 1974. The image shows McClafferty Funeral Directors funeral home all those years ago.
1974
March 14, 1974In 1974 Mr. Jack McKeone took ownership of McClafferty Funeral Directors whilst situated at Meenan Square in the Bogside. He continued to run the business for the next 13 years.
1987
February 17, 1987Ownership then passed to Mr. John Casey in 1987 who remained at the helm alongside his family for 32 years. The image shows Mr. John Casey directing a funeral in 2014 with a horse-drawn carriage in procession on the Brandywell Road clearly showing the old Brandywell Stadium in the background recently renamed the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

March 8, 2019In March 2019 our new owner and proprietor Mr. Kieran Connor took the reigns of McClafferty Funeral Directors and has devoted himself to providing an authentic, personal & caring service to the families of Derry and beyond in their time of need.

Terrence (Terry) Cavanagh
Date of Death: 04-01-2025
It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Terrence (Terry) Cavanagh on 4th January 2025.
Late of 16 Sherard Street, Dublin and formerly of 72 Rinmore Drive, Creggan. May he rest in peace.
Beloved son of the late Jimmy and Maisie. Devoted brother of Brian, John, Rose, Christopher, Daniel, Frances, Tina and the late Patsy, Ann, Billy, Peter, Vincent and Valerie. A much loved brother-in-law, uncle and great-uncle. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of his wider family circle and friends.
Terry’s remains will be reposing at his niece Leanne’s residence, 151 Galliagh Park from approx. 3pm on Saturday 11th January. Funeral leaving from there on Sunday 12th January at 11:40am for 12:15pm Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Creggan. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.

Eugene Sheehan
Date of death: 09-01-2025
It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Sheehan, peacefully at Altnagelvin Hospital on 9th January 2025.
Late of Daisyfield Apartments and formerly of 16 Rathowen Park. May he rest in peace.
Beloved son of the late Edward and Sarah Sheehan. Devoted brother of Marian, Eamon, James, Donal, Martin and the late Nuala and Sammy. Loving father of Sarah, Fiónan, Roisin and Cahir. A much loved grandfather to all of his grandchildren. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of his wider family circle and friends.
Eugene’s remains will be reposing at his brother Eamon’s residence, 3 Shanreagh Park from 7:30pm this evening, Thursday 9th January. Funeral leaving from there on Saturday 11th January at 10:20am for 11am Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Creggan. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in Cockhill Cemetery, Buncrana.
Wake house will be private from 10pm until 11am.

Trevor Pio Lamberton

It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Trevor Pio Lamberton on 27th December 2024.
Late of 23 Lisfannon Park. May he rest in peace.
Beloved son of the late John and Mary Lamberton. Loving brother of Charles, Terry, Corrina and Julie. Dearest brother-in-law of Karen, Lisa, Keith and Ivan. A much loved uncle and great-uncle to all of his nieces and nephews. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of his wider family circle and friends.
Trevor’s remains will be reposing at his late family residence, 23 Lisfannon Park from 6pm this evening, Sunday 29th December. Funeral leaving from there on Tuesday 31st December at 9:20am for 10am Requiem Mass in St. Eugene’s Cathedral. Burial will take place immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
The wake house will be private from 11pm until 10am.
