With McClafferty Funeral Directors there is no such thing as a standard arrangement. We work with you to customise and personalise every detail to your exacting requirements. Our experienced and professional staff will help guide you through each step of the planning process discussing all your expectations such as funeral costs, floral arrangements, funeral vehicles, and coffin selection, every detail will be fine-tuned. We liaise with all medical staff, clergy, cemeteries, and crematoria as and when required. In 2024 McClafferty Funeral Directors marked 120 years as the city’s longest established funeral director.
1904
September 2, 1904Mr. John L. McClafferty established McClafferty Funeral Directors in King Street in the Waterside, Derry in 1904. He and his family ran the business until 1974. The image shows McClafferty Funeral Directors funeral home all those years ago.
1974
March 14, 1974In 1974 Mr. Jack McKeone took ownership of McClafferty Funeral Directors whilst situated at Meenan Square in the Bogside. He continued to run the business for the next 13 years.
1987
February 17, 1987Ownership then passed to Mr. John Casey in 1987 who remained at the helm alongside his family for 32 years. The image shows Mr. John Casey directing a funeral in 2014 with a horse-drawn carriage in procession on the Brandywell Road clearly showing the old Brandywell Stadium in the background recently renamed the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.
2019
March 8, 2019In March 2019 our new owner and proprietor Mr. Kieran Connor took the reigns of McClafferty Funeral Directors and has devoted himself to providing an authentic, personal & caring service to the families of Derry and beyond in their time of need.
2025
May 27, 2025On the 27th May 2025 our proprietor Mr. Kieran Connor and his son Kieran Lucas Connor take receipt of their all new Mercedes Benz Funeral Fleet taking McClafferty Funeral Directors into the next phase of its continued expansion.

Gerard (Jed) McClelland
Date of death: 27-04-2026
It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerard (Jed) McClelland, peacefully at The Foyle Hospice on 27th April 2026.
Late of 2 Stewart’s Terrace. May he rest in peace.
Beloved son of the late Anthony and Nellie. Devoted father of Gavin and Diarmuid. Loving granda of Áine. A much loved brother of Eddie, Damian, Niall, Dermot, Mary, Grainne, Majella and the late John and Thomas. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of his wider family circle and friends.
Jed’s remains will be reposing at his late home, 2 Stewart’s Terrace from 1pm tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday 28th April. A private cremation will take place at Lakeland’s Crematorium, Co. Cavan on Thursday 30th April.
Parking will be available at Brooke Park for the duration of Jed’s wake.
The wake house will be private from 9pm until 10am.

Michael Mason

It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Mason, Peacefully at the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny on 27th April 2026
Late of 42 Wood Park, Lismonaghan, Letterkenny, F92 N1W4 and formerly of 47 Thornhill Park, Culmore, Derry. May he rest in peace.
Much-loved father of Michael, Niall and Conor.
Dearest brother of Frances, Liam, Noel, Annmarie, Deirdre, Sean and the late baby Francis. Loving granda of Scarlett, Molly, Adam, Amber and Sofia. Precious son of the late Michael and Susan. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by Moira, his extended family circle, friends and neighbours.
Michael’s remains will be reposing at his late home 42 Wood Park, Lismonaghan, Letterkenny, F92 N1W4 this evening Monday (April 27th) from 5:30 p.m. Funeral leaving from there on Wednesday (April 29th) at 8:50 a.m. for Requiem Mass in St. Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn, Derry at 10 a.m. Burial immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
The Wake house will be private from 10 p.m. until 11a.m.

Margaret (Myra) Carton
Date of Death: 24-04-2026
It is with deep sorrow and great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret (Myra) Carton, peacefully at Daleview House Nursing Home on 24th April 2026.
Late of Daleview House Nursing Home and formerly of 8B Greenhaw Road and Bishop’s Street.
May she rest in peace.
Beloved daughter of the late William and Kathleen. Dearly loved sister of Terry and the late Billy, Edmund, Eileen, Betty and infant Patrick. Deeply regretted and sadly missed by all of her nieces, nephews, wider family circle and friends at Daleview.
Myra’s remains will be reposing at the McClafferty Funeral Home and Chapel of Rest on Saturday afternoon (April 25th) from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sunday afternoon (April 26th) from 4 p.m. until the Removal of Myra’s remains at 5 p.m. going to St. Columba’s Church, Long Tower for 5:30 p.m. to repose overnight. Requiem Mass in St. Columba’s Church, Long Tower on Monday (April 27th) at 10 a.m. Burial immediately afterwards in the City Cemetery.
